Size of Legal File Folder

The briefcase (cardboard and glue used) must pass the photographic activity test in accordance with clause 5 of ANSI 1T9.2-1988. When it comes to office organization, there are few tools as handy as suspending file folders. This type of folder is available in a variety of sizes to store similarly shaped sheets of paper. Thus, the dimensions of a legally sized suspended file are similar to the dimensions of a sheet of paper in legal size. Score lines on the front flapFor letter and legal size backrests, the first row of stripes must be 3/8 inch from the primary fold. The second score line should be 3/4 inch from the primary fold. Letter size folderA letter-sized folder folded along the primary pointing line must be 8 5/8 inches high (for the front flap), 9 5/8 inches high (for the rear flap) and 11 3/4 inches wide. The permissible deviation for each dimension is plus or minus 1/16 of an inch. Hanging folders designed to store letter-size paper typically measure 8-5/8 × 14-3/4 inches (21.9 × 37.5 centimeters) in size. This provides about one-eighth of an inch of horizontal spacing and 3-3/4 inches of vertical spacing when storing stationery. Although legal and stationery items are used for both commercial and official purposes, they are not the same size. Therefore, they should be kept in folders of different sizes for safe storage. In addition, the dimensions of an ISO B4 sheet exceed the dimensions of 9-3/8 × 15-3/4 inches (23.8 × 40 centimeters) of a legal size backrest, so you need to find a hanging folder specifically designed for B4 sheets of paper.

Hanging folders may contain flying papers or shackle and kraft paper files. Because these files are designed for a different folder, suspended folders in legal and letter formats are larger than their standard counterparts. A letter-sized hanging folder measures 12 3/4 inches. wide by 9 3/8 inches tall, while the legally sized hanging file is 15 3/4 inches wide and 9 3/8 inches high. In many ways, the two can be used interchangeably. It is possible to print contracts on paper in the form of letters and school reports on legal paper. However, most companies or educational institutions have standardized paper that they adhere to for specific purposes. The case consists of a single piece of cardboard folded along a primary row of stripes. It contains two additional lines of stripes on the front flap and has a reinforced top edge on the rear flap. The backrest should have straight pages that meet evenly (when the backrest is folded), with rounded corners at the front and back flaps. (See Figure 7-a.) Files are available in different sizes to fit the variety of paper sizes used in personal and business correspondence.

Two of the most common paper sizes are the letter and the law. When these documents are filed, they can be filed into both traditional folders and hanging folders designed to be hung on binder clips. Each carton shall conform to the requirements of this specification, be manufactured in accordance with good commercial practice and be free from imperfections that may affect its usefulness or aesthetic appearance. While it is true that you can use legally sized hanging folders to store sheets of paper in legal and letter size, offices usually use hanging folders that match the size of the paper. This is because different sheets are used for different purposes and using the folder with the right file size reduces confusion. At first glance, legal sheets and letter-sized sheets may look similar. But it`s only after putting the two sheets together that you realize how much longer one is compared to the other. CompositionBriefcase board must be made from new cotton or linen pulp, fully bleached chemical pulp or a mixture. The paperboard must be free of sanded wood (ASTM D1030, X 5 spots and TAPPI T-236cm-85), alum rosin size (ASTM D549-88), metal particles, waxes, plasticizers (i.e. wet resistance additives) and plastics and contain less 0.0008% reducible sulfur (TAPPI T-406om-88). It must be free of components that cause the carton to fail the photographic activity test (ANSI IT9.2-1988, clause 5).

Surfaces must be free of knots, shives and abrasive particles. A standard file folder contains organizing tools such as tabs to display information about the contents of the folder, making it easy to find in a cluttered workbook. The outside of each packing container shall be legibly marked with the following particulars: order number and type, size and number of binders packed in the container. Unlike A4 paper and stationery, there is no equivalent to legal paper in the ISO 216 system. Legal size paper is less used in its intended format and is mainly found in law and accounting firms as an alternative to copy paper. In these offices, the additional 3 inches of paper on a legal sheet may contain a one-page length legal document and contain more column entries for printed copies of the registers. Since legal-sized paper is longer than standard letter-sized paper, a larger file is required. Number of backrests per container specified in the contract Top edge on rear flapFor letter and legal size folders, the top edge of the rear flap must be 1 3/8 inches plus or minus 1/16 inches.

Standard backrests can be fixed with horizontal and vertical pockets. Horizontal pockets give you a wider canvas space; However, vertical pockets are best for designs with a lot of text, as we naturally read our eyes from top to bottom. The tabs are available in different positions, so you can easily see the tab when you are sitting in a drawer with other file folders. If you order new folders every quarter or year, change the position of the tab so that each folder is visible when placed side by side. A reinforced edge not only makes your backrest look good, but also provides ample protection from tearing, wrinkling and weathering of your edges. Tabs can be custom designed with a label of your choice or left blank so your customers can write in their own label. A 1/2″ back makes your folder look like a book and lies flat when placed horizontally in a filing cabinet.
